Here is a Kindle Fire case I made with another retro fabric I picked up on Black Friday that is absolutely irresistible. After examining the fabric next to different colored felts, I settled on a chocolate wool felt for the closure flap, which itself is accented with bluish thread. The result is very very cute, indeed.

NJ was hit hard by the freak snow storm of last Saturday, which rendered 2 million households and businesses without power for days. This included our house, which means no electricity, phone, or Internet service for us since Saturday. This could last another 2 to 3 days. Since I couldn't use my sewing machine yesterday, I decided to hand-sew a felt iPhone 4S / 4 case, which is shown below. It took longer than usual, but I am pretty happy with the outcome. I sure hope that power comes back on soon.

It has been a very busy October, partly because I spent a week learning to make something completely new that entails zippers and cornering zippers. This involves 4 book covers for a special friend of my Mom's. I completed one last night that's in a half-way decent shape, now I got to refine it further, and then I have to make the other 3. I hope to share some photos later.

I was also involved in a Fall Fair at a private school fund-raising day, which turned out to be a complete waste of time. I should have known that when you do something for the wrong reason (in this case the potential to make a few dollars from the rich parents at a fancy school), you will always come out the loser (loser with double Ls"). It still infuriates me to think of wasting a WHOLE day of precious time. You live and learn...

I decided to try a new design for a Apple iPhone 4 / iPhone 4S / Droid case. I have the opening of this case on a long side of the case instead of my usual cases that open on one of the short sides. I am pleased with the way it turned out. I especially like the outside pocket that's perfect for an ID and a couple of credit cards. I also made the Velcro-equipped leather closure tab a little wider than usual to accommodate the wider opening. The navy-blue-dominant plaid makes for a great gift for a guy!

I love the contrast of the neutral-color hemp cord against the dark-brown leather used in this new iPhone 4 case. Most of my iPhone cases are interfaced and lined, but this one is not. I have seen many leather cases on Etsy that are not lined, so I decided to try making one myself. The leather is soft but of a medium weight, so the case is not flimsy. And the iPhone 4 fits snugly in it. The hand-stitching makes it very unique and eye-catching.

This iPad case is another addition to my new patchwork series... I just love working with all the beautiful fabrics in my collection! The case is interfaced, padded, and lined, and is equipped with a vibrant complementary and contrasting button and suede for closure (You wrap the double strand of suede around and under the button to secure the case - Don't worried, it's very secured). I could have used a closed loop to work with the button for closure, but I prefer the free-spirit look of the wrap-around method.

I wish I had more time to experiment with all the ideas I have - I just love trying different ways of creating bags and cases. I have used this pig illustration on bags in the past, but this case is different in that instead of using iron-on transfer photo fabric, I printed the pig on cotton twill and stitched it onto the case. I also sealed the picture with three coats of clear acrylic. The picture really stands out against a jet-black wool-blend felt.

I just love these fabrics - Not only because their rich colors reflect the upcoming Fall season here in northern New Jersey, but they are sturdy quality upholstery fabrics. The texture is amazing too! The shapes on the fabric of the first case has a Zen-like quality about it; the bottom portion of the second case is a very vibrant and velvety material that contrasts and complements with the top portion. I am really happy with these fabric choices.

This is a new iPad 2 or iPad 1 case I just added to my Belvidesigns shop on Etsy. I decided to do something colorful and different using complementary and contrasting fabric prints. I must say that I really like how it turned out. I especially like how the vintage-looking wood button and elastic loop stand out amid the darker fabric colors.
The bag is interfaced for structure and shape, and lined with a dark-brown wool-blend felt. The back of the case is a very dark solid brownish reddish-brown rayon-blend fabric. The sleeve has a down-to-earth quilt-like feel to it. With a little of bohemia thrown in. It's like a little handmade blanket for an iPad.

It's been a couple weeks since my last blog post, mostly due to a super busy summer. Things will slow down after August, I'm sure. Even though I haven't had time to create new items for my Etsy shops lately, I have been thinking about some new designs, which I am really excited about creating and showing them to you. In the meantime, here are two of my most popular designs - Oldie but goodie.

The leather one is not too "old", actually - it's from earlier this year, and it has remained a best seller on my ibagsnmore shop. I have actually improved on the design since its inception in March 2011, in addition to making it available in other colors.

Two new bags I just added to my belvidesigns shop on Etsy. If you've been following my blog you know that I like making one-of-a-kind things. Or, I don't like making the same thing over and over. If I were to work in an assembly-line environment I would no doubt fall asleep on the assembly line by day two. These two bags are totally different, but both very cute. The first one is made of a soft velvety raspberry-red upholstery fabric with leather strap handle. The second one is made of a sturdy mustard-yellow upholstery fabric with suede-like strap handle, and is decorated with floral appliques and comes with magnetic-snap closure. Both bags have pockets.

I love how this bag turned out...
