I got some new fabrics last week and have been thinking about different ideas of using them. In the meantime, I made these two iPad cases to replenish my Etsy shop. They are unisex and trending toward masculine, I would say. They are padded and lined to properly protect the iPad. The brown-white plaid one is a wool suiting fabric; the navy-tan plaid is a heavier upholstery material.
My sewing guru - i.e., my mother - has always warned me about using plaids, as it's very easy to misalign the pattern, and when it happens, the boo boo is usually very glaring. So unless you are willing to spend some extra time in a project, it's best to steer clear of plaids.
This is a super cute handmade sleeve/cozy/case for an Apple iPod, iPhone, or iTouch. The bright colors of the fabrics are perfect for the Spring and Summer.
Recently I have gotten a lot of custom orders. The most common situation is when someone sees a design they like on my shop but they want it in a different fabric and vice versa. This is one of those custom requests I just completed.
I've been busy working on some special orders in the last couple of days, one of them is shown below. My focus has been on smaller gadget sleeves and cases - such as ones for the Apple iPad, iPod, and iPhone, so whenever I work on something different such as this laptop bag, it's more time-consuming. The fabric for the main part of the bag is a luxurious navy chenille normally used in upholstery. The customer wanted an outside pocket made of a fabric of a different color; I chose a wool-blend navy-beige houndstooth. The contrast turned out very nicely. The bag is generously interfaced for stability and lined with wool-blend felt. It has Velcro closure.
For variety I added two side-by-side pockets on the outside of this unisex iPad sleeve. It turned out better than I had expected. This will be listed on my Etsy shop shortly (www.etsy.com/shop/belvidesigns).
This is the perfect fabric for an iPad case/sleeve for this time of the year - it's bright, summery, and cheery. Who can resist the combination of the white, pink, and green in this beautiful sleeve? The solid green closure flap only adds to the multicolored fabric! I will be posting this sleeve on my Etsy shop shortly (www.etsy.com/shop/belvidesigns).
I just completed this pretty little iPad case/sleeve using two contrasting yet complementary fabrics. I will be listing this on my Etsy shop shortly (www.etsy.com/shop/belvidesigns).
Sorry for not having posted in a few days; I've been busy working on a large order for a video-game maker. I finally got a chance to create these two iPad cases / sleeves yesterday using some new fabrics. I really like the contrast of the main fabric against the closure flap. I will be posting these guys on my Etsy shop later today (www.etsy.com/shop/belvidesigns).
Just completed this laptop bag made of a rich burgundy rayon-linen blend fabric, with an outside pocket of a different - but contrasting and complementary - fabric that has specks of burgundy, brown, and beige in it. This is another special order for a customer.
This black and beige houndstooth pattern makes a striking and timeless Apple iPad case / sleeve. It's unisex, masculine, and classy. This is a custom request for one of my customers, so it will not be listed on my Etsy shop, as it's already sold, or it will be tomorrow. This is a beautiful fabric! I know the photos show the beige part of the pattern like white, but it's actually beige (or a light brown), and the combination is gorgeous!
As many of you know, it is extremely difficult to start and sustain any small business without a lot of hard work, persistence, luck, and some publicity (Including customer feedback). I want to use today's post to share some recent "press" or "blog" attention my iPad cases and sleeves have gotten. The positive attention has helped Belvidesigns tremendously in the last couple of months. I am grateful to all the blogs and websites involved, and I am very thankful to all of my Etsy customers - especially those who took the time to provide feedback on Etsy and by email.

Since the Apple iPad case I made yesterday using this houndstooth twill turned out so beautifully (you can see it at http://www.etsy.com/listing/46078910/handmade-unisex-masculine-twill-apple), I decided to make an iPod / iPhone case out of the same fabric. This case is also large enough to accommodate other mobile devices such as a Blackberry, a small camera, plus a variety of other cell or smart phones. It also has an outside pocket that's perfect for storing your ear buds, business cards, credit cards, money, etc. I will list this on my Etsy shop soon (www.etsy.com/shop/belvidesigns).
